Showcasing bespoke furniture, design and homewares, Wilkins and Kent is an essential stop if you’re on a mission to spruce up your home or snare a gift. In the early ’90s, Jeremy Wilkins was building and renovating houses and Stephen Kent was working as a sound editor. Both had a hankering to make furniture and saw beautiful timber going to waste in skips around town, so in 1994 they started Wilkins and Kent in Fitzroy. They continue to make furniture in their original workshop “out the back” of their Brunswick Street store.
The store’s range of homewares, jewellery, design and art objects is constantly evolving. Wilkins and Kent are early adopters and have been championing slow food and local artisans for a long time. “In short, we encourage creativity,” they say. Clients can deal directly with the makers and customise their handmade pieces.
